Bloomsburg Tops Cheyney in Women's Basketball

CHEYNEY- Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/ Lewistown) added 20 points and eight boards to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 61-54 victory over Cheyney on Saturday.
Bloomsburg (6-16, 2-5 in the PSAC East) jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. The Huskies opened the game up with an 8-0 run thanks to a lay-up by Kegerreis and three-pointers by Kelly Joyce (Ashland/ Cardinal Brennan) and Miskinis in the first four minutes of the game. The Huskies would extend their lead to 11 points when Miskinis connected on another three-pointer to give Bloomsburg a 19-8 lead with 11:33 remaining in the first half.
Cheyney (4-17, 0-7 in the PSAC East) followed with a 13-2 run and tied the game at 21-21 with 6:35 left before halftime. However the Huskies regained the lead on their next possession on a jumper by Kirby Johnson (Woodstown, NJ/ Woodstown). Bloomsburg would never relinquish the lead the rest of the game and led 31-27 going into the locker room.
In the second half, the Huskies extended their lead to as many as 13 points. However, Cheyney put together a late rally and cut the lead to just three points when Ashley Blake hit a three-pointer with just a minute to play. The Huskies were able to hit their free throws down the stretch and held on for a seven point win.
Joyce added eight points and eight rebounds for the Huskies. Blake scored 16 points to lead Cheney. Kegerreis now has six straight games with a double-double and 12 for the season.
Bloomsburg will host Millersville on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
